Educate to Liberate
As we educate more people and awareness of human trafficking and slavery grows, greater numbers of victims are identified. CAST has been actively involved in community outreach and public awareness activities with the purpose of increasing victim identifications and referrals for service. We believe it is because of these activities that there has been more than a 200% increase in referrals since 2008.
CAST provides education and practical training to law enforcement officials, social service workers, health and human service providers, attorneys, community, government and faith-based organizations, which help to identify trafficked persons and ensure that they will be treated as victims rather than illegal aliens or even criminals. Our comprehensive Volunteer Program utilizes a professional curriculum that trains community members and professionals to work effectively with survivors of trafficking and the community to help us in our efforts to abolish slavery.
CAST is a founding member of the national Freedom Network Institute on Human Trafficking and implements the training curriculum regionally. CAST has provided training to over 10,000 law enforcement, government and community based personnel in the Greater Los Angeles area on the identification of victims of trafficking and protections and treatment they should receive as victims of a crime.
Studies show that the trafficking of minors may comprise as much as 30 to 50 percent of all trafficking cases, however only 13 percent of trafficking cases currently identified and assisted by the U.S. Government are minors. In response to this disparity between identifying child trafficking and its actual existence, CAST created a Child Trafficking Outreach Initiative to provide resources and training to organizations that could help to identify and serve trafficked minors. The Child Trafficking Resource Project (CTRP) is the cornerstone of this Outreach Initiative and was established to increase identification of child trafficking survivors in the Los Angeles Area.

CAST has also provided training to people all over the world and works with international trafficking organizations in order to identify ways that we can coordinate our efforts to put an end to human trafficking.
