CAST’s Comprehensive Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) program is designed to provide expertise and training for service advocates on the full spectrum of legal remedies available to human trafficking victims through individualized technical assistance, in-person training and regular working group calls. CAST TTA is now offering free support to attorneys and social service providers assisting trafficking survivors with legal needs in the following areas of law:

Individualized Technical Assistance
Through this program, CAST's CTTA team established a toll-free hotline and dedicated email to respond to breaking requests for technical assistance from both legal and social service providers.

IN-PERSON LEGAL TRAININGS
16 Hour Legal Training
CAST’s training consists of a free, two-day legal training titled, “A Practical Guide for Attorneys Serving U.S. and Foreign National Trafficking Victims.” This comprehensive 16-hour training provides an in-depth overview of the legal issues faced by U.S. citizens and foreign national survivors, including: criminal victim witness advocacy issues, criminal vacatur and sealing records, civil remedies and immigration benefits. CAST will partner with co-host to obtain CLE credits. In the past, CAST has been able to provide up to 14 hours of MCLE credit to attendees.
8 Hour Legal Services Training for Social Service Providers
The focus of this training is to promote better understanding and partnerships between attorneys and social service providers. Trafficking survivors may have a range of legal needs across a number of judicial venues. This can increase the interactions between social service providers and various attorneys (i.e., legal service providers, prosecutors and defense attorneys). Because it can be challenging and overwhelming to navigate numerous legal issues, in addition to the complex needs around survivor case management, this training provides the legal framework to help social service providers and their clients navigate complicated legal systems.
The training will covers best practices in working with legal service providers, how to protect privilege/confidentiality, accessing public benefits, taking effective case management notes (so not to negatively impact criminal/civil case), ethical considerations and what to do if subpoenaed.
WORKING GROUP CALLS
The TTA team also coordinates working groups for the legal and social services communities and hosts the following weekly (legal) and monthly (social) training calls.
Legal Anti-Trafficking Weekly Working Group
The Legal Anti-Trafficking Working Group is an informal opportunity for attorneys and legal service providers to ask questions and share experiences about handling human trafficking cases. This is also an opportunity to get technical assistance at no cost from legal professionals across the country. As an added benefit, you will have access to updates in anti-trafficking legal and policy issues.
The call is every Wednesday from 12-1 PM PST/3-4 PM EST.
Social Services Monthly Technical Assistance Call
This unique call is an opportunity for social service providers and case managers to speak with attorneys to learn about best practices in working with legal service providers such as protecting privilege/confidentiality, working with attorneys, accessing public benefits and potential legal remedies for your clients.
The call is every fourth Thursday from 12-1 PM PST/3-4 PM EST.
