What To Expect When You Call The Hotline

Intake Process

When you first call, we will ask you some basic questions to help determine if you are a trafficking victim. If you are, we will ask you a few more questions about your needs and connect you to our programs. If you are not, we will connect you to other resources that can help you.

For emergency situations, our team will work on responding to you within 30 minutes. For all other situations, you can expect a response within 72 business hours.

Confidentiality

All calls to the Cast hotline are confidential. If you wish to report to law enforcement, our staff can help you. Reporting to law enforcement is not a requirement for Cast services and we do not share information to law enforcement, other providers, or anyone else without your consent.

Our Services

Our services are open to survivors of all forms of human trafficking (labor and sex) of all ages, ethnicities, genders and nationalities, in Los Angeles County. All survivors of human trafficking are eligible, no matter when or where the trafficking occurred.

Our services are free of charge.

Hotline & Emergency Response

If you are in crisis or think you are a victim, call Cast’s 24-hour hotline at 888-KEY-2-FREE (888-539-2373). We will ask questions to determine if you are a victim and then work to get your emergency food, housing, transport, medical and other needs met. We have interpreters on standby, if we don’t speak your language.

Housing

We can connect you to safe housing at our emergency shelter, transitional shelter, or permanent housing through rental assistance. The shelters are designed for rest and healing and have outdoor spaces. All bedroom and living spaces are shared with other residents. At the shelters, you will have access to food vouchers, counseling and whatever specialized support you need. Both shelters are available to adult, single female-identified and nonbinary individuals, and the locations of the shelters are kept confidential for your safety. If our housing programs don’t fit your needs, we will connect you to other organizations.

Community Case Management

Your case manager will be with you every step, meeting with you every 1-2 weeks. They will help you to identify your needs and goals, and to come up with a plan, including for your safety. Based on your needs, they will connect you to financial assistance, benefits, housing, medical care, counseling, transport, education and training, employment and more. They can also accompany you to appointments.

Legal Services

Cast has staff attorneys to help you with all your legal needs, at no charge. If you are from another country, we can help you get immigration status so you stay and work legally in the US. We can also help you to get a restraining order, clear a wrongful criminal record, advocate for you in court, and to reunite with your family.

Youth Program

If you are under 24 years old, you can take part in Cast’s Youth Program. You can also join monthly youth events, designed to help you relax, meet other young people who have been through what you have been through, and learn new skills.

Survivor Leadership

Survivors who have been through our programs in Los Angeles are welcome to join Resilient Voices, and all survivors in the US are welcome to join the National Survivor Network, a values-based membership group. These networks empower survivors to connect and develop skills to inform the public about human trafficking and bring about change.
