AB 629 (Smith/ Gonzalez) – Victim Compensation: Ensuring Access to Lost Income for Human Trafficking Survivors (2019)

This first of its kind legislation ensures that the California Victim Compensation Board provides survivors of human trafficking with compensation for loss of income like victims of other violent crimes. Support for lost income for trafficking survivors is calculated at up to 40 hours per week, incurred as a result of the trafficking crime. The payment is capped at $5,000 for the first year and $5,000 for the second year.
